The water flow calculation and flood forecast of small and medium-sized river bridge is related to smooth transportation and the safety of people's lives and property. At present domestic scholars put forward a flood forecasting theory- flow influence line method. The two basic requirements of this method, rainfall and water mark elevation, can be satisfied in Guangdong province for both big and small bridges. This paper is based on flow influence line method and the hydrological calculation local standard projec of Guangdong communications department. Eight bridges in Guangdong province are examined on the spot according to different landform. The analysis of its figure is used to testify the feasibility of this method. The experimental results show that flow influence line method is of high precision when it is applied to flood forecast in Guangdong. It requires small amount of interier and field work. It is intuitive, reliable and simple in calculation which can meet the needs of actual production. This method is of more practical value for the places lacking of hydrological data. This paper provides experimental evidence for the application of flow influence line method to flood forecast in Guangdong province and makes an active exploration into the wide use of this method.
