Emulsified Asphalt Mixture To Resist Water Damage Pilot Study

Due to the high smoothness, comfortableness and of ride, asphalt pavement is the best highway pavement structure. With the increasing of service time, diseases like ravelling, potholes and pavementdepression, gradually appear in pavement under the action of weathering and load etc. Currently the asphalt pavement pit mending is patched mainly by hot asphalt mixture and cold asphalt mixture. Since emulsified asphalt mixture have a lot of advantages such as saving resource and energy, improving construction condition, reducing environment pollution and saving construction expenditure, which has been receiving a lot of attentions. However, due to the properties of emulsified asphalt and its mixture, pit slots caused by water also happens to emulsified asphalt pavement. In order to spread the application of the environment-friendly and energy efficient material, it is necessary to improve its water stability, without influencing other performances.The article mainly studied the influence of SBS modified emulsified asphalt, SBR emulsion and cement on the water stability of emulsified asphalt mixture. The influence of various factors on conglutination of asphalt and aggregate, water stability of asphalt specimen under the action of hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressure were experimentally studied.Experimental results show that:SBR emulsion cannot improve the conglutination of asphalt and aggregate, and, SBS modified emulsified asphalt and cement both can enhance the conglutination of asphalt and aggregate, and the improvement of cement is better.In summary, the addition of 2% cement is the most effectively measure to enhance the conglutination of asphalt and aggregate.2% cement firstly mix with emulsified asphalt uniformly, and then mic with other mineral mixture. In this way, static and dynamic water resistant aspalt mixture can be made.
