ABSTRACTThe work is supported by the Education Department of the former Ministry of Machinery-Building of China and Gansu University of Technology.The centrifugal oil pumps have been used wildly in the petro and petrochemical industries because of their simple construction, smooth operation and convenient maintenance. However, the results tested in oilfields have revealed that the tested efficiency of the pumps is lower in average than the rated efficiency of them by 5?O%. So it is extremely important to investigate the performance of the pumps.Many experiments about the effects of the impeller parameters on the performance of the pumps have been carried out, but there are many contradictions in the literatures. In addition, the aspect, which how to optimize the impeller geometry and physical illustration the laws that the performance changes with the variation of the viscosity of the oil, have not been involved yet.The low specific speed centrifugal oil pump 65Y60 is used as the model pump, which is widely utilized in oilfields and refineries in China. The effects of the outlet angle of blade on the performance in different viscosity have been systematically investigated. Further more, the outlet angle has been optimized. Based on the result of investigation, the following conclusion should be made:(l)The laws of the effects of viscosity on the performance of the pump are obtained from the experiments.(2)The laws of the effects of the outlet angle on the performance of the theoretically pump are analyzed by considering the effects of viscosity on all kinds of energy losses in the impeller and the volute casing. It comes out that the theoretical results are perfectly coincident with the result of the experiments.(3)The optimization design method, which considers the impeller and volute casing as a whole and the effects of viscosity, is proposed.
