Presently the designing method adopted popularly in engineering field for tall buildingsregards the superstructure, foundation and soil respectively and calculates them separately.Disregarding the interaction between them, this segregation cannot conform to the reality and itcould make the designing plan either unsafe or wasted Hence, the reasonable and practicaldesigning method of structure and foundation relies on the over-all understanding of theinteraction. In coordination with the tests on site and analysis of theory, the thesis fully sets forth themechanism of the interaction among superstructure, raft, pile and soil of tall buildings. Thedistribution rule of the force between raft and soil in pile-raft is a saddle shapeaiong its axis. An empirical formula estimating the proportion of load carried by piles and raftin the area of slumping loess is presented. The comparison between real case talculation andfield measurements shows that the simple method proposed in this thesis can more exactlycompute the proportion of load carried by piles and raft of pile-raft foundation in the soil ofslumping loess area, and that the method deserves promotion and examination in practice.Based on the integration of current design and study results on pile-raft foundation thethickness of rafts the length of piles the distance between and the numbers of piles are chosenas variables to optirnize the design. lt is expected to obtain a designing plan that is reasonableand economical by this way. Besides, the thesis defines two new concepts about foundationand soil: passive control, and active control. To extremely exploit the potential of foundationand soil, a promising piles arrangement method——Sparse Outside Dense Inside (SODI) issuggested. With this new actively controlling method, almost all of the internal secondarybo of the can te ed the the ored ~ all the -- orvnesha The sOD has he pe adVantag and bo eced valus.
