In this paper, a new variable structure control method, that is, Global Variable Structure Control (GVSC), is introduced to aero engine control system. This method can efficiently shorten the time during which system initial states reach the sliding mode, overcome the sensitivity of Constant Variable Structure Control (CVSC) to noise and changing of model parameters in this period. Thus compared with CVSC, its robustness is much better. On the base of this new theory, aero engine GVSC regulator is designed. Simulation results show its advantages. Then, aero engine GVSC model following system is focally designed and analyzed, reference model designed for the system meets performance target, theory matched requirement, and achieves complete uncoupling. It is shown that the system has good following performance, and possesses strong ability of anti-noise and anti-changing to model parameters. In addition, the influence of regulating parameter to system control effect is further studied. In order to achieve engineering application, system performance under practical constraints is considered and suitable application scope of controller is given finally. research results show that aero engine GVSC model following system designed in this paper has certain feasibility in practice. At last, adaptability of the system in flight field is discussed.
