The protecting mechanism and type of apron protection against the scour at abutment, spurs, piers and roadbed along the river have been analyzed comprehensively, and the equation with apron scour depth and apron width has been developed in this paper. Resent years apron protection has been applied extensively in roadbed along river, but apron protection for abutments, piers and spurs have not been studied systematically on theory and application. In this paper based on apron protection for roadbed along river by original Xi?an Highway University, the hydraulic mechanism of scour processes and protection have been studied and analyzed systematically by hydraulic model experiments, especially the study of protecting effect for abutments and spurs against scour have been completed by hydraulic model experiments and analyzed experimental data with statistics methods. The equation of relationship with scour depth and width of apron has been developed as h~, = O.6Ohs?33tBH~4331, and drawn the sketch with measured and predicted. We can know that the apron width BH about less than scour depth h8 which without apron protection, the protecting effect of apron is remarkable, especially when it less than 0.6, the effect is the best. If the scour depth is too large, the apron with spurs, hidden spurs etc. flow control structures can be used together.
