The technique of radial graded insulation support structure is widely used in pulsed power systems. Compared with routine technique of insulation, it has higher efficiency with smaller size. It can be used in diode of LIA injector, Z-pinch device and other pulsed power systems. This paper combined the experiments with the theory research. Under the direction of a series of fundamental experiments, the principle of designing radial insulation structure was obtained. The achievement above was applied in the rebuilding of diode of existing 2MeV injector at IFP. Two different radial graded insulation support structures were designed in the heads of cathode and anode. Under the condition of credible insulation, the identity of axles of beams, magnetic field and machinery was advanced, and therefore the amplitude of Corkscrew movement of beams could be reduced. Each structure was made up of six stages of insulators, and the angle between the insulator surface and the direction of the applied electric field is 450 The applied voltage is ?MV with the pulse-width of 9Ons and the rise time of 2Ons. Whole structure operates under a vacuity of about 1 O3Pa. The final test of whole structure showed that the designing fulfil the prospective demand. As an additional application, the insulation structure of 3.5MeV injector, which will be installed in 20MeV LIA (DRAGON-I), was designed.
