Micromanipulation system is an important branch of MEMS and is widely applied in the fields of iatrology, biology engineering, industry and so on. At present micromanipulation system is mainly used for microinjection. Microinjection is a crucial means for gene injection in modem gene engineering. Since the manipulated objects of microinjection are all very small, the accuracy of microinjection determines the survival rate of cell. As an information passage between microworld and macroworld, vision subsystem directly influents the accuracy and efficiency of microinjection. So magnifying the image of micromanipulation, three-dimensional imaging and related image processing, making the operator free from microscope are crucial problems of micromanipulation system that need to be resolved. In this paper, the main research works concerned with the three-dimensional imaging technology of micromanipulation system are as follows:The composition of micromanipulation system and the function of vision subsystem are described. The significance and present development status of this research project are also stated. The principle of human's stereovision and the important function of binocular parallax in the development of stereovision are analyzed, which forms the psychological and physiological basis of three-dimensional imaging system. After consulting many literatures concerned with three-dimensional imaging principle, we select binocular time-division three-dimensional imaging technology according to the requirement of micromanipulation system. Firstly we establish a set of analog time-division three-dimensional imaging system. The system is somewhat of stereovision and to some extent can emancipate the operators from the shackles of microscope eyepieces and transfer the micromanipulation on the screen ofmonitor. But there are flicker and vertical definition problems in this system. These problems limit its popularity and application. Based on the analysis of the whys of the flicker phenomenon and nowaday displaying technology, a project that is easily carried out and conveniently operated is then designed. The project is a kind of flicker-free digital three-dimensional imaging system based on PC. It is proved that the system totally eliminates the flicker phenomenon and its stereovision is quite satisfying. In order to improving the display performance of video image, it is necessary to preprocess the video signals before being displayed on the monitor. So a flicker -free digital three-dimensional project based on DSP is finally designed.
