Since the movement of flows and boundary conditions of the natural rivers with too many variables are extremely complicated, it is unable to reveal the behaviors by using of the present theories and experience in this area. The river hydraulic experiments are playing important roles to solve these problems. Because it is relatively reliable in both theoretical and practical research, the rigid bed model, which is without deformation under the action of river flows, is widely used in the river hydraulic simulations. The advantages of visibility and high accuracy of the rigid bed models are evident for the complicated boundary conditions of rivers. However, the rigid bed models are also limited by several shortcomings, such as the large quantity, the long period, and the high costs. Moreover, the resistance similarity, the distorted ratio, and the model scale are also with problems. Therefore, it is necessary to put more efforts to investigate in this area. The numerical simulation, which is simple and easy to use with high efficient and less costs, is commonly employed in the flow analysis recently. This method is based on the mathematical model from mathematical physical equation. However, the forecast ability of the mathematical model is restricted since it is difficult to consist of the closed equations in a large amount of flow problems in hydraulic engineering The synthetic model, which combines the experimental and numerical simulation, is normally used for these complicatedproblems The results are satisfied in hydraulic engineering.Owing to the reasons mentioned previously, the investigation in this paper is focused on the several aspects as follows:1 The limitation of the design method, distorted ratio, and model scale of the rigid bed model are described. The consideration of the model design and experimental results of Tai Ping Wan Hydroelectric Power Plant are explained herein.2 The 1-D hydraulics computational method and 2-D shallow water equation are employed to simulate the processing of channel dredging in Tai Ping Wan Hydroelectric Power Plant. The results of model tests and numerical analysis are combined and compared each other.3. The resistance coefficient of the river, the scale affect of the rigid bed model, and the rule of channel dredging are also discussed in order to obtain the reliable conclusion.
