This paper proposes the open absorption refrigeration cycle driven by hot air which is heated by solar energy. The cycle flow chart and calculation models are given in terms of the operation characteristic of the cycle in this paper. And the detailed calculation and analysis for the cycle are done. In addition, the operational performance of the system in a whole day is analogically calculated in three representative cities: Beijing, Xi'an and Guangzhou. The relationships between the cycle COP (coefficient of performance), the cooling capacities (qe) of the system and the hot air temperature, between COP, qe and the ambient air temperature, relative humidity, between COP, qe and the wet air temperature at the generator upside, between the system general efficiency and the hot air temperature are found.By researching, it is found that the cycle has a better operation stability while the hot air temperature is high enough. Because the potential energy storage technique is applied, the solution quantity shortage or excess problem caused by the frequent change of solar radiation intensity is solved. Compared with that it is used in the south of China, the system can get a higher efficiency when it is used in the north or the north-west of China. Compared with the traditional solar absorption refrigeration cycle, the open cycle has some advantages such as start-up fast, COP higher, system simple, cost lower , and so on.But because of the characteristic of the open absorption refrigeration cycle, problems of continuous abstraction of uncondensable gas automatically and corrosion to pipe columns in the absorber when oxygen is separated from LiBr-H2O will appear. To solve them, more experiments and design efforts must be done in the future.
