Grab is one of the important equipments of modern goods port. During the process of Grab, the working condition of Grab is serious, and the load is very complex. So it's hard to measure all the loads that apply to the Grab with normal diagnose methods. Furthermore, because of the unique shape of Grab and the main frame apply to it, it's difficult to calculate the strain of Grab with normal linear methods. During the design of Grab, the design of holder is the main mission of whole design. Because of the unique shape of holder, it's hard to get the inner strain. Previously, people always use larger coefficient for security. But, if we have better understanding of Grab strain, we can safely reduce the weight of Grab, the make full use of the Crane. So, It's important for us to study the strain of Grab, not only for better design, but also for practice.The thesis is based on the actual Grab. Following the mechanics, loads as well as constrain of Grab, we focus on the Holder, study it with the Similarity Theory and Modal Experiment Theory. With the guide of all theories, we design three modals of the Grab Holder. At the same time, we designed the experiment equipments according to the loads and constrains of wording conditions of Grab. Through the experiments of the three modals, we got the precise strain of the Modal. After then, we study all of the testing conditions, which we applied to Grab Modals, in ANSYS5.5 system, to setup the Finite Element modal, and then we got all types of strain appropriate to the experiment modals. With the theory of statistics, we compared the experiment data with Finite Element results, and concluded theory modal of Grab when we study. With this thesis, we find the way to set up Finite Element Modal for Grab, and get the reference data for Finite Element research of Grab.
