This paper has an overall research on the theory of VVVF, especially on the technology of SPWM applied to pulse width-modulated voltage-source inverter. Inverter is also made researches on, in which MCU 80C196MC and IPM PM20CSJ060 is used as the core. Using those two key parts, a low-power inverter has been designed.The applied characteristics of WFG in 80C196MC are expounded in the paper. By means of it, the PWM waveform can be generated more easily and the hardware of control board can be simplified.Driving and self-protection characteristics of PM20CSJ060 are studied as well. Based on the experiences, credible and steady driving circuits for IPM have been designed.The researches on the capabilities of the fault detection and fault signal output and fault signal characteristics help me design the fault-disposing circuit and relevant subroutine. So capabilty of fault-disposing in inverter is enhanced. And the inverter becomes smarter.During the designing, the pulse-processing ciucuit is preset which processes the feedback pulse from photoelectric encoder for close-looping the system in future. By using the circuit and quadrature mode of Timer 1 in 80C196MC, incremental encoder can be embedded into the velocity regulation system more easily and the domain the inverter can be used in is enlarged too.
