Todaypeople’s requirements of comfort, convenience life are improving. Escalatorhas been installed in shopping malls, sidewalks, subway, airport and other places.However, the accidents of escalator happened repeatedly and even appeared casualties,having negative impact on public safety. The reason is that many of the escalator arealways working in a complex environment with high load. That will make adverselyaffect to escalator. The effects were often expressed as speed deviation which producedby the handrail and stair, irrational accelerated speed which generated when theescalator changing state from standby to running, even more, the inversed direction ofthe running escalator. When the grave worksite accidents occurs, public opinion on theescalator is rising sharply, and making people uncomfortable.Study on measurement method of escalator and development testing instrumenthas been carried for many years in developed countries. But there are many improperaspects when considering the function, price, portability of the instrument. All theinstrument on the market can apply the target of GB16899-2011《Manufacturing andinstallation specifications of escalators and passenger conveyors》, but there are alwayssomething deficient.College of Opto-electronic Engineering, ChongqingUniversity and Chongqingspecial equipment inspection institute are looking into the process of escalator testingand evaluating the instrument for developing escalator testing instrument. The projectare depend on national standard,‘Production safety accident prevention science andtechnology project (CQAWS2013Y-010)’ and ‘Science and technology planningproject (KY201201)’ by Chongqing Administration of Quality and TechnologySupervision.The goal in this paper is designing an escalator testing instrument. Throughcalibration, testing instrument function, evaluating the performance to verify the designscheme. Measuring the velocity of escalator, calculating synchronization rate ofhandrail and stair, measuring maximum acceleration must have been achieved. Realtime curve display, function of data saving and analysis will also have beenaccomplished. In the aspect of testing method, theoretical error has been analyzed notonly the photoelectric encoder but also the charge coupled device. Through the analysisof the error, the parameter of the device should be determine and the device could be selected. In the aspect of hardware, UI of the membrane keyboard will be designed, thefunctional circuit will be determine.CRC data checking, real time curve drawing, data saving have being accomplishedthrough.NET platform.Through the communication of the PC and lower machine, theoriginal data can be read, the algorithm simulated by MATLAB, speed curve andacceleration curve can be obtained. The curve could be the reference for testinginstrument. By using CCD as the core device, optical mouse as test hardware,non-contact measurement method has been verified correctly, and provides a feasibledirection for the escalator measurement.
