In China, decorate is most important part on traditional architecture. No matter Palatial architecture or folk residence, there are always elegant ornament on it. Because of the social order the coloure and colored glaze can't be used on folk residences. On the other hand, brick and masonry carvings become the focal point.Shanxi has a great important position in study of architectural history because of it's characteristic position and long standing culture. In Ming Qing Dynasty the Shanxi Merchant who had built up the marvelous residential count yards as sign of architecture art's high tide. The great of building by which the relationship between the culture of Chinese history and architecture can be studied had been well preserved until today.The thesis is based on the study of decorative component of study of decorative component of brick and stone on traditional folk residence in Middle and south of Shanxi. After through study, the deep culture and humanism can be found, which is lack in modern structure. So decorate is necessary.There are three parts in the thesis. First of all, the cultural history of Shanxi has been stated. It includes two facts. One is the condition in which the decorate of brick and stone grew up. Another is the elementary knowledge of decorative component connecting with structure.Secondly, the deep culture and characteristic art of decorative component about brick and stone, which is most important in the thesis had been discussed. In this part, the point focused on the affect of decorate, which likes a bridge that link up human and architectures.Finally, the conclusion which has some practical significance pointed that the humanism should been invited into the mode of thinking in modern architectural designing. Meanwhile, we can think of the traditional architecture's inherit from a new angle.
