It has been shown that the Widespread Fatigue Damage (WFD) can markedly affect the residual strength and the crack growth lift of a structure with WFD and is, especially, very important to the ageing aircrafts. The study of WFD is having been done in various aspects and very important results have been obtained on some aspects. But, How to effectively apply the results to the safety assessment of the structures with WFD is another problem that needs to be solved and is also very important in engineering. Based on the existing researches, this paper focuses emphasis on the some relative but important techniques of the residual strength and the crack growth life analysis of the structures. These techniques may be the general process of the safety assessment of the structures with WFD, the cracks link-up criterions, the multi-variable optimization method to estimate the growth lifts of cracks simultaneously, etc. The application of these techniques to engineering structures is also studied in the paper. Some important conclusions have been given in the paper according to .the results of some instances.
