Displacement sensors are very common used in various technology fields. So the researches and developments of new displacement sensors are always been paid much attention. In the paper, based on polarized light detecting method and Faraday magneto-optical effect, a new displacement sensor system, "displacement - current comparator" is first presented. The sensor can be used both to angle displacement measurement and to rectilinear displacement measurement. It has advantages of non -contact detection and high accuracy. It also has simpler construction and lower cost than many commercial displacement sensors.This thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is concerned with the research background of the displacement sensors, as well as the analysis' s of their characteristics. The meaning of the research is also introduced.Chapter two bring forward several projects based on polarized light and select one best project.Chapter three is concentrated on the accomplishment of the first part of the displacement sensor. Include of light, mechanic, electronic and magnetic design.Chapter four discusses the displacement sensor signal processing.Chapter five is concerned with the experiment and the sensor' s performance analysis. As a result, base on the analysis of the experiment data; the even sensitivities and accuracies in the whole measuring range are obtained.Chapter six deals with the sum up of the research content and the achievements of the thesis are mentioned, the conceit of the further developing work is pointed out.
