By contrasting the testing results of different component and ratio of the Compound Dimethyl Ether (DME) fuel, gasoline and LPG, this paper ascertains the optimum composition of furnish. Meanwhile, it evaluates power property, economy property, emission property and combustion characteristics. The results indicates that the output of the Compound Dimethyl Ether engine is greater than that of the gasoline engine in low and middle speed, while less than that of the gasoline engine in high speed. The fuel consumption rate of the Compound Dimethyl Ether is less tham that of the gasoline in all of load. The average fuel consumption rate of the Compound Dimethyl Ether is less than that of the LPG in all of load. Comparing HC emission reduces 53.3% to that of gasoline and 38% with that of the LPG. CO emission reduces 63.4% in relation to that of the gasoline and 17.2% than that of the LPG. NOX emission reduces 32% in comparison with that of the gasoline and 23.4% than that of the LPG. The Combustion rate is lower than that of the gasoline, but greater than that of the LPG. The flame development angle is less than that of LPG and greater than that of gasoline. The main combustion period is greater than that of the gasoline and less than that of the LPG. The heat release regularity is similar in comparing with the gasoline.
