Compared with the power unit in conventional vehicle and electric vehicle, the power unit in hybrid electric vehicle has more sorts and larger quantity of parts, and can work in more ways. Hybrid electric vehicle can not put to full use of it's predominance if the hybrid power unit matches improperly in parts parameter and control strategy etc.Firstly the composing of hybrid power unit and the hybrid electric vehicle simulation was presented in this paper. Then a model was established for solving the problem of hybrid power unit matching by connecting optimization design with vehicle simulation, and the problem of power matching of hybrid power unit was solved with evolutionary algorithm according to single-object optimization and multi-object optimization separately. Lastly analysis was made on the matching of hybrid power unit with a view to the configuration, parts parameter, control strategy and the driving cycle.The research shows that with the model established for solving the problem of hybrid power unit matching and proper optimization algorithm, it can get the optimal parameter of the hybrid power unit quickly, thus can get the proper matching project of hybrid power unit during the initial stages of vehicle design.
