With China's accelerating urbanization and the growing urban population, it put forward a greater challenge for urban waste disposal. Then road sweeper has made more extensive role in urban sanitation with its efficient and convenient features. However, the engine of road sweeper works in the inefficient region for long hours because of its slow speed in working time, which results in the problem of low fuel use and poor emissions.Hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) applies the combination of engine and battery,which can improve fuel economy of conventional ICE and reduce the amount of pollution to a certain extent. In addition, the production cost of HEV is lower than EV and FCEV,so it is hopeful that HEV will be well developed in current times. HEV has more components than conventional vehicle, so it increases weight and volume. But it has less influence on big vehicle than on car.This paper studies with the traditional road sweeper as subject and analyzes and designs the hybrid drive system with its actual operating conditions, and eventually achieved the goals of raising fuel economy and reducing emissions through the optimization. This paper firstly introduces the hybrid technology applications in the private car and increased demand for the road sweeper under urbanization. The results show that it is feasible and important to convert hybrid of road sweeping, and analyze the key technology in the vehicle development process. Basis on this, the study compares and analyses the structure and characteristics of three different hybrid system as well as presents sweeper hybrid power system design options combing with the actual characteristics of the structure and operating conditions of road sweeper. Secondly, this paper studies on the ectotype and parameter matching of powertrain components together with the selection of relevant control strategy, and presents a simulation validation with Advisor which shows that there are apparent improvements on fuel economy and emissions of the modified hybrid vehicle types on the premise of meeting dynamic. Finally, with the use of Matlab6.1, this paper designs and embeds genetic algorithm process in Advisor, searches better fuel consumption and emissions value, further improves it based on the original and achieve good results. In summary, it has somewhat practical significance of the study on the design and optimization of sweeper on hybrid power system, and provides a theoretical guidance to real hybrid vehicle development of sweeper.
