Line-heating is caused the concern of the whole shipbuilding profession because of its many virtues, such as the craft have got to sprung not easily after taking shape and it is easy to process the correction many times. As a result of this, many attempts have been trying to analyze the line-heating process theoretically and experimentally and making it an automatic process is the goal of the research. As the effort before, the craft gets a very big development. But under the current condition, we can't do once in process to make the hull plate take shape, so it involves the problem to process again. So if we can supply the correct data to continuative process, we can increase the precision of the process and guarantee the quantity of taking shape. To resolve the problem, in this paper, experiment study and numerical simulation are presented:1.The experimental study on the expression of undevelopable surface. Because the plates we used in production and experiment belong to the complex curves which can not be developed, so in this paper the knowledge of Non-Uniform B-spline and de Boor algorithms are used to express the complex curves with quadrangled gridding.2. The experimental study on the development of the undevelopable surface. This paper presents the fundamental development principle of shape-preserving, which approximately develop the undevelopable surface.3. The numerical solution of the split. There will be some splits when a surface is developed. And the width of the splits is the width of shrinking when hull is processed. So the numerical value of the split width will be calculated, and we can supply the correct data to the continuative process.4. The validating of the method. In this paper we will take the ship hull for example, it advances the surface development method of the whole hull. Furthermore, through the analysis based on data, which is obtained from the shape-preserving mapping development of the full-scale ship hull in ship yard, the paper then demonstrates the correctness of the method.
