The frame is one of the most important parts of a solar car. According to research demand, the paper analyses the background of task and brings forward the elementary design scheme of the solar car frame, which includes choosing type and material, confirming main dimensions and connection style. After having built a model of solar car frame in UG, finite element analysis (FEA) of frame is carried out. Then loads, constrains and meshes are applied on the model. Firstly, based on this model static stress is analyzed and the stress distributions of the frame under various static working conditions are attained; Secondly, modal analysis of the frame is carried out and ten rank natural frequencies and modes of the frame are received. Then, the response of the frame is attained by the stress reaction stimulated by road surface. According to the result of analysis, stress and rigidity of the frame itself are bigger than the analytical stress and rigidity, so optimization design is carried on to reduce the weight of the frame. Because many weld bond are used in the connection of the frame, the final of the paper compares weld bond with point weld in stress distributions and draws a conclusion that weld bond is better than point weld in stress distribution. The frame bases on above analysis meets the request of primary design.
