The development of alkaline manganese batteries and organic mercury-substituting aderivatives was summarized in this paper. Seven kinds of organic mercury-substituting inhibitors including PAE,PTO, PTE,NTC,PEO,PEE and NEC were synthesized by means of the molecular structure design. The structures of the products were characterized using IR spectroscopy.Their inhibiting properties on zinc in the alkaline media were investigated using methods of collecting gas,Tafel polarization curves and electrochemistry impendance spectrum. The results showed that all of them had good inhibiting effects. They were related with the quantity and molecule structure of inhibitors. The inhibiting effect of PEO and NEC was best in the quantity rage of 0.2 %. The best quantity of PAE,PTO,PTE and GOCC was 0.6 %.That of PA,NTC and PEE was 1.0 %.Inhibitors with longer hydrophilic group had better inhibiting effects than those with shorter one.Polarization curves showed that PAE was cathodic inhibitor which inhibited the hydrogen evolution in the course of cathodic reation;Inhibitors including PA,PTO,PTE,NTC,PEO,PEE and NEC were anodic inhibitors which mainly inhibited the zinc anodic dissolution process.Electrochemistry impendance spectrum showed that corrosion rate reduced because adsorption of organic inhibitors increased the electron transfer resistance and induced interface capacity. The inhibiting effects of the composite inhibitors were better than the single ones.
