After the dynamic consolidation, it is very difficult for the designers to justify whether the primary design for dynamic consolidation can satisfy the allowable settlement or not and how it would be modified. Because the delamination of the foundation after dynamic consolidation is very irregular and the traditional sporadic testing results can't characterize the foundation commendably, the traditional methods are no longer suitable for calculating the settlement after dynamic consolidation. Therefore a new method for calculating the settlement should be proposed. This paper introduces the dynamic consolidation mechanism, and brings forward some new opinions. It is proposed to apply the fuzzy optimization theory to evaluate and choose the plans of soil treatment. The predominance of dynamic consolidation relative to other plans of soil treatment is illustrated by applying this optimization theory. It also explains the significance of researching the method to calculate the settlement of the foundation after dynamic consolidation. The average ground settlement after dynamic consolidation is a consequential indication of dynamic consolidation effect. Many methods together with their applications are summed and evaluated. Two characters of the foundation after dynamic consolidation are discussed. There are irregular stratification phenomenon and uneven distribution of the soil layer. It indicates that traditional sporadic testing results can't characterize each soil layer at different depth. It is no longer scientific to calculate the settlement by using the traditional methods, for example, stratified summation method. This paper puts forward uniting rayleigh wave technique with traditional sporadic tests to fix on the average character index at each depth and replacing traditional stratifying calculation with integral calculation. It is more scientific to calculate the settlement after dynamic consolidation. And it can apply to most foundations especially to the complex foundations.
