This paper primarily studied the strength characteristics and ultimate bearing resistance of the reinforced soil.This paper can be divided into three parts. Firstly, based on the laboratory triaxial test, the effect laws of arrangement mode of geotextiles on the reinforced soil have been studied, and then the strength characteristics of reinforced soil were analyzed. Triaxial test shows that the strength of reinforced samples are bigger than that of unreinforced samples. The effects of the reinforced samples gradually decrease with the increasement of confining pressure. The strength of the samples do not increase with the number of layers of geotextiles. The lateral deformation of the reinforced samples is obviously lower than that of unreinforced samples.Secondly, based on the laboratory triaxial test and predecessor's research, the paper put forward the concept about reinforced incidence. Then a modified method to calculate the strength of reinforced soil was put forward. Using the method, the reinforced sample was analyzed by way of non-linear elastic FEM mode .The FEM results were compared with experimental data, thus the feasibility of the mode was tested.Finally, some distribution laws of the tensile forces in reinforcement at the failure of reinforced foundations were studied, taking account of the length of reinforcement. And research was conducted on the effect of the number of reinforced layers on the bearing capacity of reinforced foundation. The experiments show that the bearing capacity increase little when the number of the reinforced layers reach 3.And if the geotextiles could be placed where the horizontal displacement is the biggest, the result of the reinforced soil is the best. By academic deduction, the paper educed the depth where the horizontal displacement is biggest. Furthermore, the analytical method to calculate the most ideal embedded depth and distance between geotextile under the strip footing as well as a new way to calculate the bearing capacity of reinforced foundation reinforced by short and long geotextile strip was put forward. This method was used into practice and the results showed that the method was correct.
