Shipping safety is the permanent topic of maritime industry, As engine-room is the center of ship, the studying on the ship engineer room is important to safer maritime, but engine room is a complex organization: there are many sources of trouble and abundant parameters of phenomenon, moreover trouble and phenomenon is not simple corresponding relation, but intricateness and mutual influence .Since the 1960s,the leading shipbuilding countries begin to study on the ship condition monitoring and trouble analysis, Nobody's engine-room shipping on duty appeared .certainly the condition monitoring and trouble analysts system also meets some question ,such as: only give alarm or show the actual value of the parameter, does not possess the function of analyzing and giving operator the direct suggestion function about the complicated trouble reason , Only monitor the present running conditions, does not possess the function of predicting equipment future and run reliability though trouble analysis technology makes good progress in these yeas, onboard the ship is still rare .aiming to improve the shipping safety, this paper make some research work on the ship engine-room, the main innovation are as follows:Firstly, this paper introduces and analyzes the research work and current situation on the condition monitoring, trouble analysis and safety assessment .especially in the maritime fields .Based on the collected data of current maritime accidents ,it point out the urgency and necessity of the research work onto safety controlling technology.Secondly, it puts forward a new concept ,for the research of the ship engine-room equipment by considering the man, machine(equipment) ,circumstance and management as a integrity man-machine system ,and points out the items of "man" subsystem and "machine" system in detail.Thirdly, it collect the ship mechanical accidents of the main Chinese shipping company ,and then sorts them out as four items: equipmentname, typical trouble, monitoring parameters, consequence; uncovers the internal relation among man,machine,circumstance and management, establishes a relation database between condition monitoring and typical trouble for the engine-room equipments ; refering to the SMSC-2000 marine engine-room simulator in Shanghai Maritime University, it divides the engine-room system into eight subsystems, designs the monitoring interfaces which is marked with the monitoring parameters, detects the running engine-room machine by use of trouble analysis and information syncretizing, and builds up the condition monitoring system of engine-room machines.Fourthly, it takes man, machine, circumstance and management as assessment index, proposes a calculating method for index weight calculation, puts forward the linear-weight model to make the engine-room equipment assessment, at last be able to work out the safety grade on the basis of the model and direct the maintenance of the engine-room.Finally, by use of the Visual Basic programming language, it introduces design of ship engine-room management system , which is composed of condition monitoring and safety assessment module, engine room emergency module, engine-room maintenance module .and spare parts management module, the modeling of these function is not only favor to the onboard of the system, but can also help the maritime colleges or companies to train trainee.Besides the some database of monitoring parameters and typical failures has been built up,even not accurate and overall and not included in this paper, This is still a long way to go to build up a safety assessment system for marine engine-room ,which can be used on board ship.
