The nickel-chromium battery ensures photoelectric instruments their tactical properties, while its own efficiency is, on the other hand, guaranteed by the quick and highly efficient charger. This thesis focuses on the following aspects: how to overcome polarization and to quickly charge the battery, how to enhance versatility of various kinds of chargers for charging nickel-chromium batteries so as to meet varying need of the armies, and how to control the charging process effectively to enhance efficiency. While studying on quick charging and versatility of chargers, an analysis on charging and discharging characteristics of the nickel-chromium battery and on mechanism for polarizing voltage has been made; and a charging mode, in which microcomputers are applied to control the charging process and a second-phase constant current charging and reverse discharging method is used for depolarization, is brought forward in this thesis. Charging speed will be improved through depolarization by first-phase intense current charging and reverse discharging method. With the introduction of microcomputers, an effective control over exchange of different charging phases and over charging process becomes possible, the automatic level is thus raised; meanwhile, different kinds of nickel-chromium can be charged in this way, which has improved the versatility of the chargers.Due to the by-effects that Voltage Negative Slope Method has on charging control of nickel-chromium batteries, a comprehensive controlling method composed of Voltage Negative Slope, Time-Setting Control, Maximum Voltage Control, and Maximum Capacity Control has been studied. Moreover, Second-Phase Derivative Method has also been investigated and put forward.Besides these analyses and study, this thesis has made some systematic designs with relevant design circuits, and carried out tests and checks on new chargers based on the analysis of test data from the prototype.
