Vortex flowmeter has made great progress during the past years. It is universally acknowledged that delta bluff body possesses optimum performance at present. In order to achieve better characteristics of vortex flowmeter, researchers focus their attention on the vortex detection method and signal processing circuit. The paper described the operational principle and structure of the electromagnetic vortex flowmeter (EVF). On the base of the delta bluff body, improvement has been made on the EVF's vortex generator's shape to generate strong and stable vortex street. Different from the structure of traditional electromagnetic vortex detection method, a new one is used to achieve higher performance.The signal processing circuit of EVF is a low power microcontroller system. Therefore, reducing power consumption is an important element in designing the system. Some techniques are adopted to lower current consumption. The vortex flowmeter can be powered by lithium battery, which could widen its application range.Although vortex flowmeter has been widely used in industry, there are still some factors that hinder it from spreading, such as electromagnetic interference, flow field interference and vibration interference. The experimental result of EVF proved that it could effectively eliminate the influence bringed by interference described above. Consequently, EVF is a kind of hopeful flowmeter and has a splendid future.
