The work in this dissertation is part of National Advanced Research Project (Grant No.41308010307). This paper mainly discusses the design and implementation of the serial and parallel protocol controller of LongtiumSl industrial control system.LongtiumSl is compatible with PC/104 protocol, which is composed of a embedded processor compatible with the Intelx86 integer and floating-point instruction sets, a SDRAM controller, a programmable interrupt controller, two serial ports and a parallel port. LongtiumSl provids 7 DMA channels, 3 timers and PC/AT keyboard interface. The serial and parallel protocol controller described in the paper is the primary communication channel between the industrial control system and the peripherals.The major contributions and achievements are summarized as below:. The architecture of the serial and parallel protocol controller is designed and implemented, including data path and control path.. The Asynchronous Data Communication Protocol and IEEE 1284 standard signaling method for a bidirectional parallel peripheral interface are analyzed.. Universal asynchronous serial receiver/transmitter (UART) is designed and implemented. Referencing to existing serial receiver/transmitter, receiver/transmitter FSM is designed to control serial receiving and transmitting timing.. IEEE 1284 standard parallel protocol controller is proposed and implemented. Different communication modes on parallel port are discussed, including translating the asynchronous communication into synchronous design.. The normal communication between PC (serial and parallel ports) and FPGA verification platform is achieved. Further the DOS6.22 operation system has been running on LongtiumS 1 successfully.The paper accomplishs the design, synthesis and verifyication of the serial and parallel protocol controller. Then the system is debugged in a FPGA device.Presently, LongtiumS1 has accomplished backend design and will be tape-out later. The dissertation has contributed a lot to the SOC design and builds solid base for the tape-out of LongtiumS1.
