With the electronic controller unit increasing quickly in auto, high-speed and effective communication is requested. Since the CAN Protocol was born in Bosch in the 80s of 20th century, it has been developed rapidly. The Controller Area Network will take the place of the RS232 and its use in auto becomes a certain direction. So far, with the CAN protocol developing, a new standard birthed - J1939. It has become a standard protocol used in truck and bus.Firstly, this thesis gives an introduction to the development of CAN bus and J1939 protocol in recent years. A study on the CAN bus and J1939 protocol has been carried out and described in the thesis.Based on the mentioned above, the main task of the thesis is develop the J1939 communication for the CR system. This thesis covers a detail study on the design of the CAN communication node and the development of J1939 protocol. The object of the task is 16-bit micro-controller C167-CR. The main work includes the design of the node, the design of the hardware interface and software programming. The software development is the most important point of the work. The software includes the CAN drive program and the J1939 application program. The former one is used to realize the CAN communication function and the latter one is used to realize the J1939 function.Because of the use of the computer simulation, the periods of the development has been shortened and the cost is decreased. A study on the use of computer simulation in development of the J1939 protocol has been carried out. Also we established a virtual J1939 network. With the help of the virtual network, we finished the test of the real communication node and realize the communication between ECU and the virtual nodes. The result of the test is satisfied.KWP2000 protocol is one of the most popular diagnostic communication protocols all over the world. This thesis gives an introduction to the principle of KWP2000 and realized the diagnostic communication module based on KWP2000 in CR system.
