The attention devoted to reducing harmonic pollution is increasing. Power Factor Correction (PFC) is an effective method to reduce harmonic current in power grid. Significance of Power Factor Correction is clarified in this dissertation. A comprehensive review of the recent development and principles of various topologies and control strategies in active PFC are given. One Cycle Control technology researched in this dissertation is a kind of large signal, nonlinear control technique. It is applied successfully to the control of single-phase and three-phase high power factor (HPF) rectifiers.Based on the One Cycle Control technology, a general and novel PFC controller is proposed for single-phase rectifiers. The principle of the PFC controller for Boost converter is illuminated particularly, the stability of the proposed PFC controller is analyzed. A novel power factor correction main circuit with center-tapped inductor is proposed in this dissertation. Research on single-phase Boost high power factor rectifier is implemented. A 500W sample of Boost PFC system based on One Cycle Control is designed to verify the theoretical analysis. Simulation and experimental results prove that the Boost PFC rectifier with the proposed controller can achieve low current distortion and unity power factor, its power factor can reach 0.9811. The control method is simple, reliable and general. On the basis of single-phase high power factor rectifier, the dissertation also researches three-phase high power factor rectifier. The fundamental vector principle of three-phase high power factor rectifier with One Cycle Control technology is analyzed systemically. With theoretical analysis, three-phase general PFC controller based on One Cycle Control for three-phase three-switch rectifier is deduced. A 7kW test sample of three-phase PFC rectifier based on One Cycle Control is implemented. Simulation and some experimental results are presented at last, they prove that with the proposed three-phase PFC controller rectifier can achieve low current distortion and unity power factor, its input current total harmonic distortion is only 4.77% and its power factor (PF) can reach 0.99.
