The invention and innovation of Common Rail Fuel Injection System (CRS) made it a milestone in the development history of diesel engine. Due to its functionality of controlling injection pressure, injection quantity and injection rate independently and flexibly, CRS has become the best choice of fuel injection system for diesel engine to meet the Euro IV emission regulation.Firstly, this thesis gives an introduction to the development and innovation of CRS in the recent years. A study on the control strategy of CRS has been carried out and described in the thesis.Control software development is one of the most important steps in the lifecycle of electronic control unit development. This thesis covers a detail study on the control software development method and process. The practical development work on 32-bit micro-controller MPC555 is described out.As the functionality and complexity of electronic control unit increases, a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) seems necessary for scheduling and managing the tasks in the control software. This issue is analyzed in this thesis and the development method with OSEK/VDX specification compliant RTOS OSEKturbo is given out.Calibration System is an indispensable tool used in electronic control unit development cycle. Due to their functionality limits, the conventional calibration tools have given their way to the CAN Calibration Protocol (CCP) based ones. This thesis gives out the development work on building a complete calibration system with a CCP-based calibration tool.
