A New Testing Method of Range-finding Capability of the Laser Range-finder without Target and Its Implementation

The range-finding capability is the major performance measurement of the laser range-finder, and how to test the range-finding capability simply, exactly and quantificationally is a difficult problem in the whole process of designing, manufacturing, checking, accepting, using and maintaining the laser range-finder. On the basis of analysing and summarizing the main existing three methods of range-finding capability testing, a new testing method, the extinction-ratio measurement without target is proposed in this paper, and a smart tester based on the theory is also designed and used in the army widely.On the formula of extinction-ratio value, this paper deduced the theoretic equation of the extinction-ratio test method without target. In this method, emitting laser energy and received laser energy is directly measured individually, and it is the real test method without target.To set a split light prism in optical system, laser range finder's transmission, receive, and aim axles are unionized. Coupling with an object lens, a maladjust-free coaxal optical system is designed. This design not only has ensured the parallel precision of optical axis, but also has solved the difficult problem that the optical element is easy to be maladjustment in the environment of large range of temperature.By Using 2DUL in circuit system design to judge laser range finder's emission capacity, triggering CPLD EPM240 to delay accurately, and it simulates the echo of 1.06μm laser, with this method to judge the receive capacity of the rangefinder. It realizes rapid non-decompose detect automatically.Research and experiments show that this method needs no field targets, and has less restriction to circumstance either. It is realized easily and can also give a guide to the maintenance. The smart testing equipment is advanced in technology, and the use of it is of great benefit to the development of the arms.
