The digital computer simulation of starting conditions for aero gas turbine engine is always a difficulty in engine performance numerical modeling. At present, the engine performance numerical simulation technology for above idle condition is quite successful. However, for the sub-idle conditions, as without the engine component characteristics, centering around extending the component map for low speed, low flow conditions and starting condition numerical modeling, work is continuously being done and far from over.After synthetically examined several kinds of methods for extending component maps into the low speed operating region which can be available from the published literature, a method that is newer all over the world is used, which based on the characteristic similarity laws for fan and pump machines and uses an exponent arithmetic to extrapolate the engine component maps. According to this method, the mathematical model and software used for extending engine component low speed region maps is developed.This research referred to the general simplified component-level engine start models and the one dimension models, considering the feature of the engine performance simulation program, and developed an engine start model for simulating the engine starting conditions. Using this model and the expanded engine component maps, finally, another software is finished to modeling aero gas turbine engine starting conditions. This software applies conventional component matching principles to the engine stating modeling, so the key attention to the variation of torque, rotating speed and turbine inlet temperature during starting process can be revealed.In order to prove the validity of the software developed by this research, a homemade turbofan type engine is used as the example and its starting and accelerating condition was simulated. Compared the simulated data with the tested data, a conclusion can be made that the software is valid and has certain precision, so it can be used in engineering practice.
