The calculation of Available Transfer Capability (ATC) has become an important part of the research of the electric power market. The magnitude of available transfer capability reflects the interconnection intensity and structural quality of a power transmission network. Static voltage stability is the one of factors which can limit ATC. Based on the summarization of previous work, this dissertation conducts systematical research work on transfer capability calculation constrained by voltage stability limit, such as contingency screening and ranking based on voltage stability, and using FACTS devices to improve power system transfer capability.Branch-based voltage stability index is used as a basic steady analysis tool for contingency screening and ranking, this algorithm can select the contingency which affect ATC most. And then we can use Continuation Power Flow (CPF) to calculate ATC particularly.Branch-based voltage stability index nears the point of voltage collapse is used to evaluate the effect of location of FACTS devices. This index is used for the selection of optimal placement of FACTS devices, and can improve transfer capability most. The results of IEEE 5, 9, 30 buses system test cases are provided. They are shown that the proposed algorithms are effective and have good value.
