With complex power system in the factory growing, higher demands are proposed for protective relays. Research on intelligent protection and reliability of protection for complex power system in the factory is particularly important. Based on the advantages of modern protective relay devices, this paper presents the idea of microprocessor-based protection intelligent master station, which serves as a central manager of each component of the device, and effectively relieves the restriction of limited resources. Each unit module is designed to certain standard, and the types of units are as few as possible, which greatly increases the flexibility of configuration. To make communication management faster, more reliable, and more convenient, a CAN bus network is embedded, connecting every unit together. With the support to full Chinese character display, the man-machine interface is user-friendly.In the second section of this paper, some traditional evaluation methods of reliability are analyzed for the relays.Technique to research and analyze the reliability of protection in power system was proposed. Then the model is set up. The paper described the technique to quantitatively analyze the reliability of equipment based on Markov model. A method which is the judgment of the reliability of protection in power system was found to look for the best design. Three different designs of protection in power system were given to demo the proposed techniques. Meanwhile, by optimizing the parameters method based on probability and statistics, the best design was found. The result is in accordance with the practical design.
