Highway Vehicle Collision Avoidance Warning System Research And Development

Today traffic accidents have become a social problem all over the world and many researchers are paying remarkable attention to the advanced safety technologies for improving the situation. As one of the important technologies, the vehicle collision avoidance system based on ITS(Intelligent Transportations Systems) has been investigated in many countries. This paper deals with an anti-collision system on freeway which is to realize initiative safety. On common conditions, this system is off, and this system will give drivers alarm to remind them to take some measures when the distance between his auto and another is shorter than the safe distance pre-enacted.This paper refers to research results and then provides a safe distance model between autos according to the locomotion condition when braking. By comparing the sensors used to measure the distance together with the special requirements of this system, the millimeter wave frequency modulated pulse-Doppler radar is used to measure the longitudinal distance and ultrasonic radar is used to measure the latitude distance. And this paper also discusses the electro circuit design of distance calculating and the software design.The research of anti-collision warning system lives up to the development direction of the intelligent vehicle technology, the application of this system can guarantee vehicles safety, so it will help to increase transport efficiency and have a good prospect of application and economy.
