Our country has many mountains and rivers. At the edge of mountain or river alluvial, accumulate or sediment many thick or huge thick sand gravels. These sand gravels stratum have the characters of shallow cover, small transform, high bearing capability and big thickness. With the development of economics, more and more buildings choice the sand gravel stratum as the bearing stratum of foundation. To find out the physic mechanic parameters of sand gravel stratum becomes an important part of geotechnical investigation.There have three decisive questions need to solve while drilling in sand gravel layer. The first question is drilling footage. The second question is protecting the wall. The third question is getting the core.The genetic type, distribution characteristic and engineering property of sand gravel subgrade were described in the paper firstly.Aim at the characters of sand gravel stratum of Douyun city, the exploration methods those fit to use at this region were analyzed and summaried in the paper. These methods include drilling, digging method, geophysics, SDPT, load test and level shear test. The craft, technique parameter, principle, usage condition and apply of every method analyzed in detail.For the sake of application in actual engineering, the SDPT and load test data of Duyun region were collected. The equation between the test data and the bearing capability and deformation modulus was established. This establishes some theory foundations for evaluation and usage the gravel sand gravel stratum correct in Dunyun region.At last, an actual model was given in the paper. In the model, some exploration methods were practiced. The equation was used to evaluate the physic mechanic parameters. The practice proved the usefulness of the methods and the equation.
