The axial fan is widely used in the industry and the lives of people. The most popular design methods of the axial fan are the Single Aerofoil Method and the Cascade Method. Since the design methods applied to the propeller have been developed for many years in China, there are lots of practical design methods such as momentum theory, vortex theory, lift line theory, lift surface theory and so on. This paper presents the axial fan blade design methods which are based on the propeller design methods. The numerical results of methods are acceptable for practical engineering applications. Main research work carried out includes:1. The vortex theory and momentum theory are extended to calculate the aerodynamic performance of axial fan.2. The lift line theory is extended to the axial fan. The design results prove that this method is acceptable for practical engineering applications.3. The arbitrary quasi-orthogonal surface method is researched and is applied to a compressor.4. A design method is proposed by modifying the constant section blade with the tail to get a necessary radial torsion distribution.
