The research of digital smart charger is conducted based on the tendency of development and the request of military mobile communication broadcasting station. Firstly, the background of digital smart charger research and the development of domestic and foreign are elaborated. The principle of smart battery and smart charger is introduced briefly. Secondly, in close integration with the military request to the digital smart charger and the technical specification, the system hardware design is proved, the topology and function of each electric circuit are explicated as well. In order to satisfy the request of high power factor and the advanced charge control strategy, this system joins the active power factor correction circuit and takes the high performance embedded-control chip as the charge control core. The hardware design part is based on the power management chip TDA16888. The design method of control circuit, the choice process of control variable and the specification to essential device of the main route are explicated in detail. The charging circuit structure, the principle of various functions unit as well as the design of assistant power supplier are also introduced. This article makes the brief introduction to the software system design. The SMBus programming and the design of charge control procedure are given. Finally, the questions that meet in the debugging process and the corresponding solutions are introduced. The actual work profile is presented. To conclude, a series of experiments demonstrate that this system enjoys great charging efficiency and slight electric network pollution. Each target of the system satisfies the request.
