| Each city has formed its own features in the course of development, but these features become less and less distinctive as the development of the modern society is accelerating. A new term - globalization - has been coined. Phenomena like monotony, the lack of characteristics, the loss of cities' cultural memorization and the weakening of culture consistency have aroused the scholars' concerns and become one of the most important questions for discussion in the academic world. While reconstructing the cities, protecting the ancient buildings in the cities and building new architecture are always conflicting. Should the developed countries' footsteps be blindly followed? Should the ancestors' design ideas be strictly stuck to? Or should a new idea be shaped? These are all urgent problems that should be solved. As one of the most important cities in northeast China, the city of Harbin has obtained unique humanity senses due to its geographical location and special way of development in recent years. Harbin City has protected its historical buildings well in the course of city reconstruction. Therefore, the individuality of the city is well-preserved.Against the background of postmodernism, the configuration and other aspects of society begin to show a tendency of pluralism. In the light of landscape design, the coexistence of globalization and localization has become one of social phenomena and it has already been recognized.Maintaining the individuality of the cities and coping with the relationship between globalization and localization on the basis of their own conditions are the focus of this thesis. The author attempts to analyze the process of landscape neatening in Harbin so that experiences and shortcomings could be found and evaluated. Finally, discovering the guiding theory accordingly is the ultimate goal of this thesis. |
