This thesis mainly focuses on reducing the mass and improving the stiffness, strength of a self-propelled towed howitzer turret. The mechanical property of ISOGRID structure is researched, then ISOGRID structure is applied to turret.Under the pull, bending and free vibration, the mechanical property of ISOGRID plate is compared with that of plate having the same mass as the ISOGRID plate. The cases which have optimization potence are finded. Feasibility analysis of solid element of ISOGRID plate replaced with shell and beam element is researched in the finite element analysis. Parameterized models of ISOGRID plate are created with integrated shell and beam elements by PCL programming in the environment of MSC.Patran. Parameters of ISOGRID plate with rectangle-shaped rib and I-shaped rib under the bending are optimized to make the stiffness, strength best with the Neighborhood Cultivation Genetic Algorithm of iSIGHT optimization software. The same parameters of ISOGRID plate under the free vibration are optimized to make the first gradation maximum with the Multi-island Genetic Algorithm. Finally, the mechanical property of preoptimization, optimized ISOGRID plate and common plate is compared with each other.The stress and deformation of turret is researched. ISOGRID plate is applied to the bottom-deck and top-deck where turret has the worst stress and deformation. The objectives of the mass, stiffness, strength of turret are optimized with NCGA of iSIGHT optimization software. After optimization, the mass is reduced and the stiffness,strength of the turret is improved obviously.Finally numerical control milling codes for the lightweight optimized ISOGRID structure under the bending with the I-shaped rib are programmed.
