Torpedo conceptual design is the key section of the development of the new type torpedo. However, in the real engineering programme, the most important problem that exist nowadays is the lack of enough collaboration among the different sub-systems and the integrated evaluation index with which to measure up the whole performance of the torpedo design.In order to solve the problem, the new popular method—MDO—is introduced into the torpedo conceptual design and a model system is established with the operational effectiveness considered as the most important optimization target, which can handle the complicate relationships between torpedo sub-systems and realize collaboration among them. As a result, it contribute to achieve the system optimization.Firstly, the basic structure of the torpedo general design is investigated deeply. Through the analysis of the tactics and technology index system of torpedo weapon system, the relevant parameters are fixed on. At the same time, according to the parameters, the mathematics model of the torpedo general design is established, which is based on the operational effectiveness for torpedo. Additionally, with the profound study of the core mechanics of MDO, the thesis presents the characteristic of the single-level optimization approaches, concurrent subspace optimization, collaboration optimization, subspace approximation optimization; at the same time, the feature of these four methods are compared according to the application in real project. Furthermore, CO and SAO are analyzed in detail and established the mathematics models.The main thoughts of the thesis is to combine MDO with the general design of torpedo and to build the mathematics models based on MDO. In the latter phase of the thesis, the thought is realized completely, which is proved in the example of torpedo. Otherwise, the application of SAO in the general design of torpedo is primary finished, and the concurrent subspace optimization is realized among the three-discipline design in the torpedo design.
