Biomass is of interest as energy source because it is renewable and environment-friendly. There would be no net carbon dioxide emissions during its utilization .Biomass gasification and biomass pyrolysis are two of main technologies of its utilization. Therefore, research on biomass gasification, pyrolysis technologies and its reaction system is of great significance.Based on reading lots of references, biomass gasification and pyrolysis technologies are discussed in detail, including the basic principle of biomass gasification and pyrolysis, categories and working principle of biomass gasification and pyrolysis equipment and their ancillary system in this paper. At the same time, the present situation of gasification and pyrolysis technologies at home and abroad are reviewed.Using the dual-functional fluidized bed reaction system for gasification and pyrolysis we designed and set up, the tests on biomass air gasification in a fluidized reactor are performed under different conditions. The tar content in the producer gas is determined through gravimetric analysis and the main volatile components of tar are detected with GC-MS analysis technique. These tests' results are beneficial to the further catalytic removing of tar theoretically. The tests on biomass pyrolysis in a fluidized reactor are conducted. The influence of temperature and feeding rate on pyrolysis products are investigated. The reaction temperature, sand volume, N2 flow rate and feeding rate are investigated through orthogonal experiments and the optimized technology conditions have been found. Furthermore, bio-oil has been characterized.
