As a high performance structural strengthening material, The Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) has been used widely in bridge engineering especially in strengthening of bridges at home and abroad. Firstly, in the paper, current strengthening technology is introduced, and the application and development of carbon fiber reinforced plastic is summarized, the advantages and disadvantages of repairing and strengthening reinforced concrete structure using carbon fiber reinforced plastic are discussed. Furthermore, the paper put forward the thought that the disadvantages can be overcome by prestressing technology, and then the study of strengthening reinforced concrete beam using prestressed carbon fiber reinforced plastic in bridge engineering is introduced.Secondly, in the paper, the design issue of repairing and strengthening reinforced concrete structure using prestressed carbon fiber sheet is discussed, and the equations of brittle ratio and ultimate load are presented. Finally, with the background of the Longtanhe Bridge in Yichang, my dissertation will make a detailed introduction on the process of design and construction of the prestressed CFRP to strengthen concrete beams. And from field test of concrete beams with CFRP, it is verified that this method is effective and practical. The research results can be used to give reference to the application and research of CFRP to strengthen and rehabilitate bridge structure.
