The load supplying capability (LSC) of urban distribution network is the maximum load which can be supplied by the network without any branch (line and transformer included) exceeding its capacity. LSC Evaluation is the precondition and base of the urban distribution network planning. By now there is not a means which can evaluate the LSC index effectively.So study a method which can calculate the LSC index of urban distribution network well and truly is necessary.Nowadays China is at the moment of the Eleventh "Five-Year" urban distribution network planning. Improve the LSC and evaluate the LSC index correctly would be crucial to the network planning. Based on the need of urban distribution network planning and characters of urban distribution network, this paper proposes a new algorithm for the calculation of the LSC index of urban distribution network, which is a linear programming formulation based on DC power flow. Use the algorithm, we can analyse the network's surplus capacity and N-1.Furthermore, the algorithm is realized using the Visual Fortran language, and the effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated by a real scale system.The study can provide a scientific and effective tool to the urban distribution network planning.
