In this paper, the author studies the abstraction of characteristic parameter based on IGES standard data file. The data information of graphics model is extracted from IGES standard data file according to the semantic model of IGES file. The characteristic parameter is obtained by dealing with the data information. So, the graphics model is managed with the geometry parameter. The main contain is as followed:(1) The general development process of CAD/CAM is reviewed. The purpose and significance of this article are discussed.(2) According to the development and the main content of the IGES standard, the author detailedly studies the structure, format, topological relation of the graphics, definition of geometry information element of the IGES data file. And an example of IGES data file is giving in UG environment.(3) The geometry sculpting including two dimension and three dimension model is studied. The major purpose of the research is that how to definite and memorize the integrated information and how convenient to construct the model.(4) Taking an example of the aerofoil. The graphics of the aerofoil is sculpted, then the corresponding IGES data file is dealed with. At last the parameter is obtained. By comparing with the real parameter ,the result is rational and viable.(5) Conclusions and researching directions of the future are summarized.By analyzing the theoretics and the example, the study of the parameter in this paper is feasible.
