The automobile is important means of transportation. The suspension is one of critical components to automobiles. The semi-active suspension is attracted because of simple structure and low energy requirement. The research areas of semi-active suspension include sensor technique, control strategies and actuator. A new semi-active suspension has been put forward in this thesis. The controller design of this suspension and control strategies are mainly discussed in this thesis.Firstly ,the thesis reviews suspension technique's history and development, and introduces present situation and existing problems for semi-active suspension. Based on the analysis of the composing and principle of the semi-active suspension, a model of the semi-active suspension is built. The work principle and model of Brushless DC Motor are also discussed in this paper.Secondly, this thesis presents the controller design for the novel regenerative controlled semi-active suspension. Microcontroller dsPIC30F6010 is chosen as Central Processing Unit (CPU) of the controller. It makes hardware and software design simple. Driver and power conversion circuits are discussed.Thirdly, this thesis also presents the design of controller software. Based on the analysis of all kinds of control strategies, sky-hook control strategy and PID control strategy for semi-active suspension have been carried out. The thesis reviews regenerative strategy of semi-active suspension home and abroad, and presents a novel regenerative scheme.Lastly, based on the above design of semi-active suspension, a prototype of semi-active suspension and an experimentation bench are made. Controller test and semi-active suspension test are completed. The experiment results verify the feasibility of controller and semi-active suspension.
