In china, there are a lot of projects in the mountainous regions. In the same project, the some places of is high, the some places is low, the elevation differ very greatly, for the sake of the industry smoothly progress, we usually need to construct building slope, the drop height of the building slope is 10 meter to 25 meter sometimes. In the text, we discuss some problem for the retaining wall, including to function principle, the condition of application study and the development trends of the retaining wall. We build counterfort retaining wall at the building slope, the wall exceed criterion in the side of height. We research and optimize the wall for extending the applying scope. In this way, the material strength of the structure is full exertive, and obtain the safety apply and economic performance the best result for combine.First, we must work out the side soil pressure at counterfort retaining wall. In course of working, we employ the theories for the side soil pressure, the theories were thought out by C.A.Coulomb and WJ.M.Rankine. Find all kinds of method to compute the side soil pressure, through a good deal of study to them. The next in order, make sure calculation model and load of the wall, research stability of the wall to be a whole, and analyse the condition of each piece. Through a good deal of comparing and computing to them, find the method to design the wall and the factor of affecting their size, improve efficiency of working, and attain economic benefit. End, point out the problem that need to be research in the future.
