MAVs(Micro Air Vehicles) is a kind of integrated intelligent micro system involving MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) and many other technologies. MAVs is not a simplified miniature of conventional air vehicle. It is necessary to develop a large number of new conceptions for the design of MAVs. Aircraft conceptual design is one of the basic scientific principles to develop the new generation MAV, and the explicit finite element kinetics simulation technique is one of the important assistant technologies to develop the MAVs.The design and manufacture of micro aircraft MAV-250 and its improved aircraft are presented in this paper. The aircraft design methods are traditional evaluation, software designing, wind tunnel experiment, and flight-test. The works include." 1) The investigation of 15 kinds of wing-plan configurations are carried out in the MAVWT(the wind tunnel only used for MAVs), the results are analyzed to choose the best configuration; 2) The aerodynamic characteristics of several airfoils are calculated using the software Designfoil to choose an appropriate one; 3) According to the aircraft design aim, the basic geometrical parameters of MAVs are calculated with traditional evaluation to choose the electric components for the MAVs; 4) The aerodynamic characteristics and stabilization for MAVs are evaluated with the results of wind tunnel experiments; 5) The flight quality is evaluated with results of wind tunnel experiment and flight-test. Then the fixed-wing micro aircraft MAV-250, with the limited dimensions 250mm and the ability of scouting, is designed successfully. At last, according to the theory of flexible-wing aircraft, the improved MAV-250 with flexible-wing on flight quality is manufactured. In a general way, the MAV-250 lands without landing gear, so the configurations and the electric components of MAVs are always destroyed. The explicit finite element kinetics simulation technique is used to simulate the process of landing of the MAVs. Using the software UG, ANSYS and PAM-CRASH, the MAV-250's geometrical model...
