Bidirectional DC-DC converters allow the transfer of power between two DC sources in either direction. They are used in applications such as DC uninterruptible power supplies, aerospace power systems, DC motor drive systems, and hybrid-energy electric vehicles.Several fundamental bidirectional converter units are introducing first, and then the specifications of the principle of these soft switching bidirectional units are discussed. In this dissertation a new control method for bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed according to the different topologies and control theories. There are four switchers in full bridge topology, it is easy to implement different control scheme and realize soft switching. These advantages make the product smaller. When working under soft switching conditions the device can work at high frequency with perfect efficiency. So the new control method is realized in full bridge topology. With an isolated transformer between the primary bridge and the secondary bridge, the power can flow in either direction without extra device. Then the converter can be made with high efficient and more compact. Some DC-DC converter examples are given to explain the converter's working principle. The circuit modes are built, the result of the simulation and experiment are also presented.
